Inclusive Sewing Camp to Foster Bonding and Support for Siblings

After participating in the 2019 Special Olympics Africa Family and Sibling Workshop, I knew I wanted to be part of the movement. My project was inspired by my sibling with an intellectual disability and the purpose of the project was to create a deeper bond and support system between siblings with and without intellectual disabilities through the learning of a new skill.
The project itself took place within a 12 month period where I was able to successfully develop an inclusive sewing curriculum, make the necessary arrangements, actually host the inclusive sewing camp at a local stadium in Dakar, and have additional webinar events surrounding inclusivity.
This inclusive sewing camp provided a space for youth with and without intellectual disabilities to learn a new activity together, bond as siblings, and share in the experience together.
